Help Clean Up Israel! Nikayon HaMillion
Israel has always been a fun and beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately, Israel’s nature reserves and landscape have become littered with trash and other pollution. The recent lockdowns that allowed only limited outdoor activities raised awareness of the importance of preserving nature. Therefore, the ‘Clean-Up Israel’ project was initiated. Efforts to protect nature in our immediate environment align with the celebration of the year of Shimta, and Jewish values.
Through education and cleaning up Israel in the process, the project aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage social and environmental change in the country.
The Clean Up Israel program is designed to last five years, but the results will last decades.
The project has already been successful including:
- Over 10,000 volunteers cleaned polluted areas in April.
- The project involved 100 municipalities bringing 45,000 students, children, and parents to participate in environmental education activities.
- The Initiative has already engaged volunteers from diverse communities including minority groups and underserved populations across the country.
Thanks to its important cause and its well-attended, informative and engaging events, the initiative is successful in reaching out to a large number of volunteers. At past events, kids participated in fun activities, local artists performed, and representatives from the project provided information to the general public.
This project would not have been possible without our partners, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the Goldhirsh Foundation, Mifal HaPais (the National Lottery), the KKL, the Society for the Protection of Nature, and the Center for Local and Regional Government in Israel.
